Accenture delivers new business model for Hostess Brands

Published 11 September 2013

Accenture designed and implemented a new operating model and business processes, and also delivered end-to-end IT systems for Hostess Brands, LLC to help relaunch its popular snack cakes, Twinkies.

Hostess Brands signed a multi-year agreement with Accenture in April 2013. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Accenture designed and implemented end-to-end front- and back-office processes, including finance, procurement, sales, transportation management and distribution functions; developed a new distribution system to improve efficiency and speed; and created a new data center to manage all business applications and support functions.

The company also designed, developed, and coordinated all IT infrastructure, such as shop floor automation and plant infrastructure to support basic company functions; built a multi-year support model to manage all applications and processes; provided systems support and training to all Hostess Brands's employees; and offered all software and hardware vendor and tool selection.

With the new systems delivered by Accenture, Hostess Brands was able to get its products onto store shelves in time for the back-to-school shopping season, considered a crucial period for U.S. retailers and brands.

Dean Metropoulos, owner and CEO of Hostess Brands, said, "Within the first two weeks of reintroducing Twinkies to the shelf we had five times more Twinkies on the market than during the same period last year, and Accenture played its part in helping us make this the sweetest comeback in the history of ever."

Accenture will also continue to manage all IT applications, infrastructure, and data center services on behalf of Hostess Brands.
